Skip Intro! Why do sites still make me do this?

You all know that I’m talking about, right?  The web site that has a Flash intro you have to watch before you can get into the actual site.  It’s typically paired with a link that allows you to bypass the Flash, also typically labeled “Skip Intro.”  These were all the rage in the late 90’s and early 00’s.  Why are they still hanging around?  Unless you run a site promoting a movie - for which the flash intro is really the trailer - you’re better off leaving off this annoying feature.

Here’s a good example of a “Skip Into” that is a net negative:  the Common Angels Web site.  I think the Common Angels group and team are first rate.  So why does their site (which is good by angel network standards) hide behind a totally wasted flash intro? Here’s one for a site called Indy Nonprofits.  It’s distracting and dizzying at the same time.  I’ve seen this on several nonprofit web sites.  I’ve even seen a flash intro that provides no “skip intro” link, forcing you to watch the lame animation.

I think all of the “Skip Intro” links on these pages should be renamed to “This Page is Worthless - Click Here If You Agree.”
